ABUSED AND NEGLECTED CHILDREN

Family & Children's Services has been strengthening families and building futures since 1893...

Family & Children's Services began as the Charity Organization Society in 1893. It was joined in 1898 by the Elizabeth Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children. The commitment to these two founding organizations continues today with particular emphasis on disadvantaged families and vulnerable children.

Today, Family & Children's Services (FACS) is nationally accredited by the Council on Accreditation, state licensed to provide mental health and adoption services and a certified partner of United Way. FACS provides therapeutic, case management, education and support services to children, youth and adults of all ages.
Community outreach

Some of the additional community outreach and ongoing efforts include:
  • Organize and coordinate the collection and distribution of toys and domestic goods on behalf of those families most in need, especially during the holiday season;

  • Organize and coordinate collection of food, furniture and clothing throughout the year for families at risk of homelessness;

  • Participate in community events to inform and provide resources to high risk population;

  • Organize and coordinate respite to foster families to enable all members to experience cultural enrichment, entertainment and relaxation;

  • Mentor teenagers through the power of community service in collaboration with Union County Probation Department and Youth Service Bureau;

  • Facilitate and provide all necessary resources in the domestic and international adoption process;

  • Seek continued support for expansion for future growth and increased service to communities.

In 2008, over 2500 individuals received services to help
strengthen and improve their lifes.

Last year, the agency's Holiday Toy Drive provided over 250
children served at FACS with toys and selected families were
receipients of the
"Adopt-a-Family for the Holidays" Campaign.
